Passionate About Paws: Lara’s Journey in Animal Care

I began my career over 25 years ago as a veterinary nurse, gaining hands-on experience in pet health across private practices and welfare organisations. This led to a specialisation in pet nutrition, where I spent 11 years with a global pet food manufacturer, deepening my understanding of how diet impacts health, behaviour, and longevity.

Animals have always been at the heart of my life, inspiring my career in veterinary nursing, pet nutrition, and animal behaviour. My mission is to strengthen the bond between pets and their guardians, ensuring every animal experiences joy and comfort.

After stepping away from the corporate world, I founded a pet-centric business, including a doggy daycare, retail shop, dog park, and cattery. Here, I witnessed how subtle behavioural cues often signal deeper emotional or physical needs, sparking my passion for animal behaviour.

Unlocking the Secrets of Canine Behaviour

Now, my primary focus is understanding the link between pain and behaviour. As one of only two certified Dynamic Dog Practitioners in South Africa, I specialise in gait and posture analysis to identify hidden discomfort.

I hold an advanced diploma in Animal Behaviour (COAPE, with distinction), a diploma in Canine Behaviour & Training (Pet Sense College), and I’m a certified Family Dog Mediator. Additionally, I work as a dog trainer for a dog training school based in Constantia.

Lara's Home and heart.

I currently reside in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town with my loving family, including four dogs and two cats. Each day, I am reminded of the joy and fulfilment that animals bring into our lives, driving me to continue advocating for their well-being.
